It's Complicated

It was raining and very dark and unpleasantly chilly in So Cal today, so I took myself to a matinee, my favorite rainy day escape.

I saw It's Complicated, and I liked it so much. Meryl Streep looked lovely, and completely natural. They didn't cake her with makeup or film her through vaseline, they just showed what a well-cared for lady of a certain age looks like. Alec Baldwin was equally charming as, well, a charmer starting to run low on the charm. Steve Martin was restrained and endearing.

Hallie described this as "a rom com for old people." I guess it is, and this old person liked it!

reveling in the quiet

Ian, who very nearly did not get here for Christmas due to the midwest blizzard, has gone home. Hallie went to see her grandmas for a week. Dave is back at work. My "adopted son," Adam, is still here, but leaving in a couple of hours.

The house is silent. It's nice.

This morning I ran a lot of Christmas cookies, the ones that had been around a week or more, down the garbage disposal. That was cathartic.

This afternoon, the gym.

And now my long wait for longer daylight begins. Spring, hurry fast!

Bubsy

Goodbye to Bubsy

This morning as I was scurrying around doing laundry and tidying, I happened to notice Bubsy lying unusually still on his heated pad in front of the fireplace. When I checked on him, I saw that he had slipped away.

It was a gentle ending for a sweet and gentle pet. Life around here won't be the same without you, Bubsy. Rest well, little guy.

This picture

makes me laugh.

Thanksgiving

We had the three of us--Dave, H. and me (Ian stayed in OK to work), Grandma, plus four "strays" that Hallie rounded up who couldn't get to their various home towns for Thanksgiving. The dinner was perfection, and a good time was had by all.

Pictured are Grandma filling water glasses (she's pretty cute for almost 77, no?), Hallie and her roommate, Rich, and Dave carving the bird. Oh, and one of the table, just because it was pretty.

WIsh Me Luck!

I am headed out in the rain and chill (a rare So Cal event, indeed!) to blitz my remaining out of town Christmas shopping so I can get it mailed tomorrow!

Spidey, you darling girl, what would we all do without you to remind us slackers to update our blogs? When I get back, I will post my Thanksgiving report, including pictures.
