Kitty Shopping

Hallie and I went to Petsmart today to get a new kitty. They had quite a few sad-looking adult cats, who tore my heart out, but I want a kitten. I think it'll be easier on Mickey that way.

The only kittens they had were two pairs of siblings--two very young gray kittens, a male and a female, and two slightly older brothers, one tuxedo and one a strangely colored siamese mix. They brothers were SO cute--absolutely insane, doing cartwheels and summersaults and flying all over the little room they were being kept in. Hallie had a FIT over them, and was bound and determined that we'd take them, but I just don't want three cats. I think bringing home two crazy, boisterous little boys would do poor, shy Mickey in. I tried to talk them into letting me take the pale one, but the Cats in Need ladies refused to split up the brothers.

So we came home with no cat (and a very mad Hallie.)

Maybe next Saturday.

when our Lily died, I was determined to get a kitten. Off we went to the no-kill place and eventually ened up with Gusgus. Tubby (the cat who lives with us but isn't ours) used to be the young playful boy, and now he's an old man. the kitten really aged Tubby and made him grow up over night. After a few weeks of hissing and swatting, they're now the best of friends and groom and sleep together. GusGus is very jealous that Tubby gets to go outside and I know that come summer, they'll be wild heathens out in the great unknown beyond the backyard exploring together. I kinda wanted another inside-only kitty, but we don't always get what we want, we get what we need.

good luck to you on your quest for a new kitty. I don't think I could be a 3 cat lady, and am glad we stuck to one kitten, they get into everything and make a big mess.

I am of a different opinion. They were advertising themselves saying,, hey,, look at us! We can dance, we can chase our tails, we can amuse you until you laugh yourself sick! Sometimes the best animals you get are not the ones you wnet looking for. Run, don't walk! back and get them! The only down side is a little bit more attentive litter box cleaning. (We had a speaker who said litter boxes need to be scooped three times a day. I thought damn, most my friends who have cats do it about three times a week if that.)

I think getting a kitten would make things easier but I'm judging that based on my experience with Jack and Scout but, Jack has a weak spot for baby things -- cats, humans, dogs, etc., it's kinda funny -- so he took to Scouty right away.

I don't think I could handle more than two. And I can only imagine how hard it would be to try to pick a cat out. As you all know, mine came to me as foundlings so I had no say in the matter (other than to keep them) but I have to say, I love their personalities so much. I always wonder about trying to pick out a cat how you would judge what they'd be like cuz I had no choice in mine.

In regards to the litter box -- I'm tellin' ya, the Litter Robot was the best money I've ever spent. No odor (unless you wait too long to empty the drawer), no scooping, works like a charm (mine has been working everyday for about 3 years and is fine) and such a humongously easy way to deal with all that. It's been amazing. The cats love it too cuz their litter box is always clean. I wouldn't spend money on any other automated box but this one. It's not cheap but has been worth every penny.

Every 4 days or so I pull out the drawer, pull out the bag of junk, put on a new bag (I use the bags slightly differently than how they tell you to do it and it makes things even easier), close the drawer, throw in some additional litter and done - 3 minutes, tops.

Once a month I hit the button to empty all the litter, pull out the drawer, pull out the bag, put in a new bag, give the globe a cleaning, and fill it back up with litter -- takes about 5 minutes and I'm done for another month.

Good luck to you Verb. Katman is slowly getting Bella to tolerate him, but he was the best choice for us. Alas we are not kitten people anymore. I like a big fat cat to hold the covers down and make his presence known :)
