I Started!

Christmas shopping, that is.  Nothing too much--but a small gift for Dave, a couple of things for my sister, and a few things for Hallie.  I'm rolling!

i've been maing scarves, hats and gloves for months and i'm almost done. i got presents for the few getting presents and all i need to do is send pictures to walgreens to be printed and then place them in a photo album for my mother and i'll be done. i may even give in and spend too much money on gift bags and not wrap a thing this year. who knows? good luck.

low key this year. spideydaughter is getting two or three items. spideyson and wife are getting a gift card for groceries or something practical. the days of frivolous gifts are gone around here.

You inspired me to make a couple of purchases today. I will do my part to stimulate the economy.

I have finished most of my shopping. Since most of my rug sales were in EBAY through Pay Pal I decided to shop there quite a bit and I hope Maddie is not too disappointed with a plethora of mouse pins for her hat LOL There were a few books she wanted too and I found some cool old bottles at Goodwill... oh and she loves old keys so I bought a few pounds of old keys on ebay too ... I am a weird mom

I still need to shop for Puck though

You are an AWESOME mom. What fun, creative gifts.

So far, I got Hallie a souffle dish (she's suddenly into making souffles) and a box of those ultra-slimline, flocked hangers. (She's having trouble cramming her wardrobe into her closet.)

I got Dave a huge bottle of Vitabath gel. He loves that stuff.

We're sort of into assorted little doodads rather than big fancy gifts.

orb,

i saw a plan once for keys to be soddered or welded together to make lamps, tables, and other things. it was neat. i can't remember where i saw it, but her love of keys reminded me of it.

Verbie, I can't pass a pomegranate in the grocery store without thinking of you and Dave.

I'm a nut! Make it stop!

Jenny, have you noticed the prices of the pomegranates? No wonder she's out there over-stimulating the economy!

to the chicks on the old Broards, from Anotherbookshelf:

"A Shout Out From Verb!

Verb would like the World of Blog to know that she, Dave, Hallie and the cats are fine. They stayed the night with her organist. Lucky organist, ‘cuz Verb has some fine organs! She has a harrowing tale to tell and I’ll let her tell it when she can finally get to a computer.

Before calling her I was looking at the LATimes website, where they have details of all the fires superimposed on Google Maps and they had a big ‘fire’ symbol at the northeast corner of her housing development, with a big arrow showing that the wind was driving the fire to the southwest. The street names are present and the arrow was going right from the fire symbol to where her house sits. So it was with some trepidation that I asked her what she knew about the situation, at 11:30 p.m. PST.

Were it not for Hallie, they’d be completely in the dark about the matter, because they are still not being let back into the development. She says it’s because the authorities want to give the looters more time…

But Hallie had the bright idea of calling their house phone! They don’t have voice mail; instead they have an old-fashioned answering machine that takes messages for each member of the family. So they called home and Jethro, the answering machine, picked up. Meaning that the house still has electricity, etc. If you saw any of the video from last night, you’ll know that there were no ‘partial house burnings.’ So it’s virtually 100% certain that she has a house to go home to.

Consistent with her usual pluck and fortitude, she and the family are treating this as an adventure. She went to church this morning to conduct her choir and while not all the kids showed up, those that did went on with the show. Can I get an amen?"
