I've decided that this year, I'm going to focus on one area at a time. Today, I will return my mantle/hearth and the big cocktail table in my living room to normality. Once I have closure on those areas, I'll move along to something else. This year, it's going to be all about the closure.

We took ours down yesterday, and I use the term we in a very general sense. My husband is the main decorator and is also in charge of relocating all the stuff back to the attic once the season is over. If it were up to me, there wouldn't be much decorating done. My husband tends to cling too much to CRAP some of it left over from his parents. I mean really,, PLASTIC MISTLETOE???? -when he could go outside and shoot some out of our red oak tree. WV is unbing,, add an E and a synonym would be purge. I need to purge a lot of junk from this house.
Back when we really decorated for Christmas, I'd start taking down all the decorations and didn't stop until they were ALL gone-back in the boxes and closets. Now that we have a tree that lives in a box and our daughter only comes for part of one day somewhere between the 25th and the 30th, it takes me about 10 minutes at the most to pack it all in.
Everything is put away except my two Christmas trees! I'll commence on those tomorrow.
i must share something, as long as you brought this up.
every year, when i put the stuff away, i think to myself, will i be around next year to haul this stuff out again? then when the next year comes around and i am still here, i think... another year, and i am still here.
and sometimes i think.. wow, i really was neat about putting this away. and other years, i think, geez, what slob packed this stuff?
this year, i am not sure who will show up.
Poo...my comment on taking down our christmas wasn't on here...to cut a long story short, it take me about 10 minutes if I'm slow in going upstairs.
I have to do it all at once. It's how I am. I wouldn't be able to relax knowing it was at an in between stage.
i have one large tub of christmas crap and that's all i allow myself. if new goes in, someting must come out for good. if it doens't fit in the tote, it goes away. i really love getting rid of stuff and if it were up to me, we wouldn't bother with a tree, since we don't celebrate christmas at home. congrats on your successful plan of attack.

Good for you... I have put away a total of six holiday plates... oh and cleared the dining room table of holiday decorations because we needed it to play cards
Our house is back in order. I'm so relieved. Happy New Year, VQ.
