I also bought all my Thanksgiving dinner groceries today. Hallie asked the Fitkins, our friends whose house burned down and who are joining us this year, if they had any dish that it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving if they didn't have, and they said green bean casserole. I don't usually make it, but I like it and it's easy, so I added it to the list! I also bought a can of that jellied cranberry sauce that you push out of the can and slice. I know some people really like that, so we'll have that and also home-cooked cranberries. I'm also making my sister's do-ahead mashed potatoes for a crowd and scalloped corn. I'm going to have Hallie bake a couple of loaves of her famous bread, too.

You are well-prepared! I hope you all have a really nice dinner together. How nice to have invited the neighbors. What will they do now? Rebuild or start over somewhere else?
Right now they're struggling to find a rental. They have four boys and need somewhere with some space, and rentals are hard to come by since the fires. They're still in a hotel. I feel so awful for them.
I LOVE jellied cranberry sauce; I grew up thinking that's how cranberries grew in the wild! but as I'm the only one in the house who will eat it, I only insist upon it at Thanksgiving.
Sue always makes a real cranberry sauce from wild berries I gathered from coastal bogs when fishing out in Gayhead or from lake shores while hunting in Maine. But I tell you, I always grab and devour far more of the canned stuff. I think it much better.
i obught some wine and plan to drink while everyone else cooks

How soon after Thanksgiving do you typically wait before visiting Antonio's?
Oh Bert, Bert, Bert....we don't only do After! We do Before, too. Dave and I ate there yesterday.
