Jury Doody

I have call-in jury duty this week.  I was feeling pretty ok about this, since when Ian had it last summer, he merely called at 5:00 each afternoon to find out if he had to go in the next day.  If he didn't (and he never did), he could go ahead and make plans for the next day.

My group number, however, has to call at 11:30 every morning to find out if we must report at 1:00 that same day.  It sucks.  You can't plan anything until you know, but by the time you do, it's too late to really plan anything or get much done.  I don't like it.

here in cheeseland when you are on reserve duty, you have to call in at 5 the night before and then at noon again the next day. that sucks too. you have to worry about leaving work or not getting paid. i preferred to just be on duty and be done with it.

At least you get to call in. Here, we must go and sit from about 8:30 to whenever they decide to release the pool for the day and continue to show up until the pool is fully released, either by being called for a jury or dismissed by the presiding judge. In some cases, this can last a full week. One of these days, Georgia will advance into the 20th century (yes, I know, it's the 21st but we're w-a-a-y behind here).

So I didn't have to go today, but you guessed it--I have to call at 11:30 tomorrow.

I think in Dallas you have to show up at 8am (NO SHORTS! it says on the summons) and sit around and wait.

Spidey, we have that system here. I called at 5pm the night before, nothing, call back at 11am. I called at 11am they said call at noon. I called at noon and they said call at 12:20, I called at 12:30 and they said call at one. I finally stopped calling and figured that if I got in trouble, I'd rant to my congressperson about the messed up system. The jury duty place is over an hour from where I work, so If they wanted me to call at 12:30 to be there by 1, they'd be sol anyway. if i were the boss of things, that judge would get some wort of intestinal disorder as punishment.

Another day without having to go in. Two to go.

And as of today, my jury duty service has ended! Now I won't bitch about the whole call-in concept any more. Swear.
